After a global war, the world is ruled by a single regime, and a secret experiment begins.

Leona, a skilled intelligence agent with a buried past, uncovers classified files about a virtual simulation designed to test and manipulate human behavior. Before she can act, she's pulled into the deadly System herself. Each trial she faces is psychologically and physically challenging, meant to fracture her mind and erase her identity.

Inside the System, she crosses paths with Alex, a former naval commander tied to her forgotten past. As they fight to survive, the spark between them reignites, growing into a powerful bond neither expected. Joined by a group of unlikely allies, they begin unraveling the simulation's darkest secrets and the terrifying plan that extends far beyond its digital walls.

But escaping the System won't guarantee their safety. And in a world built on control, the group uncovers a horrifying truth, that no one was ever meant to escape.

❖ Interstellar pilot and ex-adventurer Alex Gallegos must keep their team safe on an icy moon as sentient storms threaten to repeat the tragedy that ended their last career. ❖ Everyone in the United Inhabited Solar Systems (for some reason, UIS for short) knows to stay away from Mahaha. The icy moon is notorious for failed probe landings and research missions that end in tragedy: the only people to ever venture to its surface needed rescuing after just two weeks. When a prestigious research group decides they want a turn, they ask Alex Gallegos to lead the team. Perfectly qualified and haunted by their past, Alex accepts, hoping to make up for old mistakes and get just a little further from the earth they've left behind. Two months into the seven-month mission, the team is struggling with discontent, damaged equipment, and blizzards acting less and less like normal weather. As Mahaha moves out of range of help and the storms take on a more malicious character, Alex must face the one foe they could never have prepared for. Mahaha may or may not be alive. ❖❖❖ Complete. Wattys 2021 Shortlister. Standalone sequel (Rocks Can Dance) coming in 2023. Comments and critiques are both welcome and appreciated. I write characters from many different backgrounds, with many different experiences. If you share those traits and find that I have misrepresented anything, please let me know! In a world ruled by disease, fear, and government control, survival is no longer a choice-it's a rebellion. After a virus devastates the population, the U.S. government uses the crisis to seize control, turning teenagers into test subjects in brutal experiments meant to create super-soldiers. Those who are captured vanish into labs where their memories are wiped, their bodies are altered, and their identities are erased. Those who escape are left with scars-and the crushing guilt of the ones they couldn't save. Artemis Cross was never supposed to be a leader. But when she's captured and stripped of everything she knows, she becomes Subject 88, forced into a nightmare of pain, injections, and psychological warfare. Her mind begins to fracture-but one memory refuses to die: Z, the boy who once held her together, the boy she can't forget no matter how deep they dig into her brain. Outside the walls, Z is haunted by her absence. He can't eat, sleep, or breathe without seeing her face. As he and a fractured group of survivors drive through a collapsing America-riddled with graffiti, riots, and people fighting to the death over scraps-Z promises he'll find Artemis, even if he has to tear the system down piece by piece. But the deeper they get into the truth, the more twisted it becomes. Friends begin to betray each other. Love starts to fracture. And the world they thought they knew is far more dangerous than they ever imagined. Because this isn't just about surviving the system anymore. It's about burning it to the ground.

"Some people are taken. Some are used. But some... come back fighting." He gave up the war for her. Then the world took her away. Lucas Wren buried the blade when he found something worth living for. When Leona disappeared, the silence left behind was louder than any gunfire. But she wasn't gone. Not really. She was taken - reshaped, repurposed, and almost erased. What began as a rescue has become something far more dangerous: A reckoning with the past. A confrontation with the man who once showed him the way out - and may now be pulling him back in. As memories return and choices sharpen, Lucas must decide: Does he fight to protect what's left... or burn everything down to bury what was stolen?
