1.4 The Other Side

23 parts Complete

This is technically the fourth book in the series but you don't need to read the other ones to understand this one. The asset's war is over. After a brutal, truth-shattering confrontation, the former HYDRA weapon has been named Ember and embraced by the Avengers, finally restored to her mother. Her life of cold cells and deadly protocols is over, replaced by the warmth of family and a freedom she never dared to dream of. But the peace is a fragile thing. The raw echoes of Sokovia and the assassin's training are not easily silenced, and the deadly conditioning ingrained by her captors threatens to unravel the bond she has just forged with the team. But freedom is never without a price. When a final, desperate HYDRA ghost from the past surfaces-a remnant of the life Ember was stolen from-it activates a final, lethal protocol designed to bring her home by any means necessary. Forced to confront the weapon she was and risk everything she has gained, she must choose between the cold efficiency of her trauma and the unconditional love of the family surrounding her. Will Ember finally step fully into her future as a daughter and Avenger, or will the relentless weight of her dark past pull the child back into the shadow?
