For Clara Harrington, life has always been easy. Normal. Sure, her mother died when she was younger and now her father is engaged to a woman she hates, but she was still (somewhat) happy. That is until her life gets turned upside down by a series of unfortunate events that end with Clara in the charming Umbracrest Academy. Unsure of her father's whereabouts and his relation to the academy and its eerie haunted halls, she is desperate to figure out what happened and how to get out of it. Making this even harder is her headmaster, an uptight middle-aged woman whose tight bun seemed to hold all of the school's secrets. Also, her roommate is not exactly the nicest girl, and, of course, her brother is even worse. With his annoying smirk and ice-cold eyes that seemed to follow Clara's every move, she was unsure whether to trust these twins. Clara's life was turned upside down in a single night, and now it's her responsibility to fix it. Will she be able to find her father and uncover whatever secrets he seemed to have been hiding from her, or will she lose herself in the dangerous games played at the academy?

Leaving home for Valmont Elite Academy was supposed to be freedom. My first choice. A chance to step out of my family's shadow and finally become who I was meant to be. But then I met her. A storm wrapped up in skin, with eyes that saw too much and a touch that burned deeper than fire. The closer I got, the more I realized nothing at Valmont was what it seemed- and neither was she. Because drowning in her darkness doesn't feel like falling. It feels like fate
