The rain poured relentlessly down on the gray streets. Maria Davis, twenty-five years old, hurried along under her broken umbrella. Her hair was a mess, her simple work clothes were wet and torn, and her eyes burned with exhaustion. It was always the same: go, work, live for others. Her family barely even looked at her unless it was to sacrifice her for her sister. She had studied and worked for years so her sister wouldn't have to struggle. But tonight... everything changed.
Suddenly, the blinding light of a car's headlights hit her eyes.
SCREECH! BANG!
Her body went numb. In the darkness, she thought it was over. But a strange voice, like the whisper of the wind, echoed in her ear:
"Do you want to live?"
Her heart beat faster. She didn't want to give up like this. With all her might, she screamed:
"Yes! Let me live! I promise this time, I'll be for myself!"
A white light engulfed everything. When she opened her eyes, she was no longer Maria.
