Abigail Hawksley never wanted to be part of anything bigger than her own life. She was just a sarcastic twenty-something with an orange cat, a bad habit of tripping over her own feet, and a knack for being in the wrong place at the worst possible time.

All of that changes the night she witnesses a brutal murder in a rain-soaked alley-a man executed by strangers in black. When she flees, she believes she's escaping danger. Instead, she's running straight into it.

Abducted by a secretive organization that claims to be "protecting" her, Abigail discovers she is more than a bystander. She is the last person to see Elias Mercer alive-and the accidental keeper of a small, cryptic key that might unlock the secrets he died to protect.

Her captors think she's a link to something called ESOTERIC-a classified project shrouded in conspiracy. To them, she's an asset. To herself, she's a liability. But when they force her to join their ranks as a field agent, Abigail faces an impossible choice: become part of the machine hunting for answers...or be eliminated as collateral damage.

Armed with nothing but her quick wit, her rising defiance, and the key that could change everything, Abigail is thrust into a world of espionage, hidden agendas, and dangerous alliances. If she wants to survive-and protect the people she cares about-she must uncover the truth behind ESOTERIC before it destroys her from the inside out.

Elena Ward, a determined investigative journalist, rushes home when her younger sister Clara mysteriously disappears from their quiet hometown. The case seems straightforward at first-a missing person investigation-but Elena quickly realizes that nothing in this town is what it appears to be. The local police, led by Detective Marcus Hale, welcome her help but behave strangely guarded. Neighbors provide too-perfect alibis. Friends who seem trustworthy contradict themselves in small but telling ways. It feels like everyone is lying about something. As Elena digs deeper, she discovers patterns of previous vanishings, staged crime scenes, and evidence deliberately planted to mislead-like salt swapped with sugar, appearances crafted to look harmless until it's too late. Her trust begins to fracture: Marcus appears to help her, but his evasive behavior suggests hidden motives. Dr. Adrian Locke, a town psychologist, offers insight but conceals files that could break the case wide open. Even Clara's own friends aren't innocent; their secrets twist the timeline of her last known moments. The deeper Elena pushes, the more dangerous it becomes. People connected to Clara start dying in staged "accidents." Anonymous threats warn Elena to stop digging. She realizes she's entangled in the web of a puppet master known only as "The Benefactor." As paranoia escalates, Elena's reality blurs: Who is ally, who is enemy? Can she even trust her instincts anymore? In the explosive final act, Elena uncovers the truth-Clara's disappearance was no random abduction. She was bait, a move orchestrated to draw Elena herself into the trap. The Benefactor is revealed in a gut-wrenching twist as someone Elena trusted the most, someone who had played both sides of the investigation. Their motive? A chilling mix of personal revenge and psychological obsession with testing how far trust can be weaponized.

44 parts Complete

Carthage soars at its zenith; Boston crawls at its nadir. Both cities are caught by the inertia of fate, or else the inexorable chaos of a random universe. A predator from the void stalks them, and it falls (somehow) to Abigail Wolfe to hold it at bay. If Abigail weren't a scholar, she'd be a delinquent, or so her parents joke. She loves them to death, but they've gotten in bed (not literally, gross) with an information broker, of all people. Don't they watch the news? An info broker across the continent just orchestrated a nightclub massacre, and he would have gotten away with it if his lover hadn't narc'ed. Not that Abby's one to talk - she's got a crush on an info broker's daughter. It seems like these brokers have their grubby fingers in every pie, and sooner or later, someone's bound to get killed. It could be worse: she could be living on Earth. Earth, where gangs vie over what's left of the cities, and cannibals pepper the wilderness. Earth, where they worship the heterochromatic Prophetess, and where a three-legged dog with yellow eyes stands vigil over the night. It's a shit-show over there, what with radiation from the fallout (to say nothing of the demons). Info brokers and shadow games or not, Abby's much better off on the colony world of Angel Falls - but when all is said and done, she might not have any say in the matter.
