Not once had she been able to activate this card. Its energy had always been dormant, silent. Her clan's writings said it required emotional resonance, a mutual bond tethered by choice, not fate.
The mark on her chest pulsed green-gold, arcs of raw energy lifting her hair, crackling through the air like spirit lightning. The card shimmered in her palm, the image glowing brighter and brighter until her breath caught in her throat.
Then the world blinked. And she was no longer in her room. Not physically, not entirely. But she could feel it. Him.
