When Max finally takes a chance and moves out to the middle of the woods and builds the cabin he always dreamed of living in since he was little, leaving behind his old city life as a struggling journalist with dreams of being a famous author, the last thing he expected was to pick up a stalker along the way of chasing his dreams. Ever since he could remember, all Max wanted was to live off the land and spend his days in the vast forests of New Hampshire as a recluse writer. But of course, not everything goes as planned, and his job for an abusive journalist company no longer feels as fulfilling as it used to. So he takes up a new life and follows what he's always wanted, starting out his new book in his favorite genre... gay smut. But the one thing that wasn't a part of his plan to start over was the man who lurks outside his window, in all his masked glory. It started a week in. And now it seems like he's always there, just watching, waiting, until Max confronts him and suddenly he's back into the shadows, nowhere to be seen. That is, until the next night. Because he always comes back. Always. The only problem is that Max can't bring himself to do anything about him. Calling the police would mean he'd be gone for good. And the man is his only source of inspiration for his book when he's out in the middle of butt-fuck nowhere New Hampshire and the only people he's in contact with is his best friend and his parents. He's willing to risk it all for some good writing. Especially when the inspiration the man brings is just so good. Because when he breaks into Max's house when he's gone, leaves small gifts and tomes, the scent of him lingering in his bed where he could've been doing god knows what, it's just too tempting to give up.

Remi has always loved the forest, the different sounds, smells, the way she could get lost in it and never have to go home to her non-existent parents. She goes in and out of her life with her best friend everyday just waiting until they're both old enough to leave their small boring town. But one day Remi is attacked, and nearly killed, by a man in the forest. When she wakes up everything's different. She feels something inside her, a power, but she has no idea what happened to her. All she remembers is the man's strange yellow eyes. When three new boys show up at her school, one with yellow eyes, asking her question she gets nervous. And then one night while heading to go get her friend she's taken and thrown into a world she didn't know existed. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Remi?" Jen says suddenly. "Hmm?" I hum back. "Do you ever wish you could just live in the forest? Away from everyone and everything?" She looks at me. "Free." We stare at each other for a long time. I see the real meaning in Jen's eyes. Her worries for going home to her overly strict parents. Her fears for the future and the unknown in general. "If we lived in the forest we wouldn't have gummy bears any more." I comment to lighten the mood. She doesn't find it funny. "I'm serious Remi! What if we did run away?" "Jen, we can't just run away. I know your parents are strict but I truly think they just want what's best for you." She says nothing. For a moment I fear she's mad at me but then she puts her head on my shoulder and I know we're okay.
