While others are freely able to chose their lovers and mates, those who participate in the Comórtas Ceangail are chosen as young children when the second born is decreed and bound to surrender their bond until after the tournament ends and a victor is signaled. The royal? Protector of the realm with their magic while their bond is suppressed, forced to watch the tournament ensue as their bond chosen by the beings above fights their rivals to surrender or death.
