Karkat Vantas, the cute, crabby asshole has signed up for human school and is getting a 'guide' or whatever to help him get used to school. Well look who it turns out to be; Dave Strider.

And just to clear this up, everyone who died comes back, so they aren't dead in this. Except the very oldest troll ancestors like the Summoner and the Grand Highblood, etc.
