American nurse, Florence Taylor, started on the craziest journey of her life by joining the Nursing Corp and shipping off to England. She's had her fair share of heartbreak in the States but nothing compares to what she's facing now and she begins to feel uncertain about her purpose. One fateful night changes the course of her destiny when she meets RAF pilot, Lieutenant James Compton, and he is immediately taken with her. She'd sworn to never become like the other women waiting for their husbands to return from their own battle in the sky and yet she can't say no to her charming suitor.

Lieutenant James Compton came from a wealthy family and had spent his days drinking, gambling, and falling into bed with many women before the war. He hadn't felt the strong patriotic call like his fellow men, it had simply been a new adventure, though once he finished his training he felt he had found his calling. Flying. Nothing had mattered more to him than climbing into the cockpit, except now he has a new challenge. Becoming the man Florence Taylor would want to settle down with and it may be his hardest won challenge yet.

Florence and James navigate the highs and lows of life during war time while trying to find themselves and how they fit into each other's worlds. With their pasts tailing behind and the uncertain future hanging before them can they come together as the war threatens to tear them apart? Or will their story end in the wreckage of the world ravaged by war?
