ITC Nepal Quake

On Saturday April 25th, over 5,000 people in Nepal lost their lives in a deadly earthquake which recorded a magnitude of 7.8 on the Richter scale.

The quake struck at 11:14 IST (Indian Standard Time) approximately 50 miles northwest of Katmandu in an area which the U.S. Geological survey calls “one of the most seismically hazardous regions on Earth”. It also affected regions outside of Nepal, killing at least 61 people in India, 4 in Bangladesh and 25 in China’s region of Tibet. Nepal needs support in rebuilding both from outside agencies and private organisations, particularly as because aftershocks and additional quakes are likely to appear for many more years to come. Moreover, there is need for more quality infrastructure so as to survive future quakes and put Nepal on path of rapid recovery.
