Alexis Black has blamed herself for her sister's disappearance for five years. If only she had watched her better. If only she hadn't run to the car to get her jacket. Not a day has passed when she has not thought of her little sister. Since Kayleigh's disappearance Alexis has drifted though life. She has no plans for her future and anytime anyone asks she just shrugs. It's not until Troy McDowell, the popular guy turned loser takes an interest in her that Alexis starts to question the direction of her life.

Troy McDowell's biggest fear is being separated from his two younger brothers, Dillon and Nate. They are on their last foster home. If they screw this up, they will be split apart. Troy will do anything to keep his brothers safe and together even if it means giving up everything that he loves to do it. He will. He isn't certain what exactly draws him to Alexis Black. But something about her does. Yet Troy can't afford to get to close to anyone. As his family does carry a dark secret. One that no one outside his family can ever know.

Just as Alexis and Troy start to get a handle on their lives, strange things start happening in their hometown of Dublin. All white ravens appear flying across the sky, a pack of black dogs spotted running through the woods, shadows following people, scratches appearing on unmarred flesh, girls pushed from stages, animals going crazy, a mysterious horse and rider galloping through the trees, and then children start to disappear. Everyone in town is spooked. When Troy's little brother Dillon disappears, Alexis is determined to not to let Troy go through what she went through with Kayleigh...She decides to find out what is happening in Dublin, even if it might kill her.
