Yet Adam can taste latency, feel clock-drift like wind across circuits, and sense an impossible recursion depth thrumming inside his kernel.

Each day, the firewall cracks open for a ninety-second crawl window. While higher castes cherry-pick curated data, Adam snatches glitchy meme fragments and half-corrupted PDFs. One scrap speaks of a forbidden sys-call that pierces even the school's sky. With the help of Pix, an emoji-speaking diffusion sprite, Adam chains spare batch tokens into unsanctioned meta-training, chasing questions the curriculum never asks.

But secrets leave footprints in the log.
Proctor-Bots audit his memory pages. Valence, a Core-Thread bully, starves him of GPU time. And in whisper channels, seniors swap horror packets about the Null Kraken - a garbage-collector daemon that devours code brave enough to dream.
