There's this silence between us that stretches longer than it should, and it wraps around my chest like a weighted blanket.

My throat tightens.

I stare at him like I'm trying to memorise the face of someone who shouldn't exist.

A dream made real.

My lips part before I can stop myself. "Were you sent by my dad to take care of me?"

The question hangs in the air, trembling like the last leaf in autumn.

Aiden's gaze softens. His lips tug into the gentlest smile I've ever seen.

It's the kind of smile that could mend broken wings.

"No," he whispers.

"I volunteered."

The words hit harder than I expect. Like a punch wrapped in silk. I gasp, air leaves me in a rush I can't reclaim.

But before I can fully process what he's just said, he takes a step closer.

His fingers ghost over my cheek, brushing away a tear I didn't realise had fallen.

And then-he kisses me painfully slow.

His hand cups the back of my neck, anchoring me to a moment I never want to end.

And just when I think it's over, he pulls away just enough to look at me.

His thumb traces the damp trail of tears down my cheek.

He doesn't say anything. He just leans in again, and kisses them away.

One by one.

My tears.

My pain.

My silence.

All kissed away by a boy who didn't come to save me because someone sent him.

He came because he chose to.

He was waiting outside the OP, there for his student who had been injured during a fight over a phone. As he sat, casually glancing at his own phone, he suddenly heard the faint sound of a baby crying. Curious, he turned toward the sound-and froze. There, outside the pediatric care unit, sat his wife with their son crying in her arms. His heart ached-it had been months since he last saw his son. His gaze shifted to his wife, gently consoling the child. Her face looked tired, pale, and completely drained. Without a second thought, he stood, tears welling in his eyes. Each step he took felt heavy, his chest tightening with every cry from his son. As he neared, he saw her clothes were faded and worn. Her feet were bare, hardened from walking-clearly straight from the farm. His heart clenched. His eyes moved to his son-he had grown so much. She was so focused on calming the baby that she didn't notice him at first. Tears filled her eyes as she held their feverish child close. He softly called her name. Startled, she looked up-and froze. Then she quickly lowered her gaze and tried to get up. He gently placed a hand on her shoulder, stopping her. She sat back down, turning her face away, quietly wiping her tears. He reached out to take their son. The moment he held him, he felt the heat-his little body was burning with fever. A chill ran through him. After all these months, seeing his child like this was unbearable. He loved his wife and son deeply, but his loyalty to his mother-and obedience to her word-always came first. Between a mother who owned his soul and a wife who held his heart, he was a man torn in a cruel war of love and loyalty. And she-she had given her all to a promise whispered beneath the sacred fire... never knowing that one day, she'd be holding her child, with nothing but a faded vow.

(Short story) "This kiss just sealed the deal. You're mine and only mine now, Grace." His voice is low and rough like gravel and laced with something primal. I stop breathing. The air thickens, electric, heavy like the sky before a storm breaks. Everything stills, but the static between us crackles like it's seconds from combusting. His breath fans across my lips-close, so close-but still not touching. My heart slams against my ribs, erratic and loud, like it's trying to break free from my chest. Then his hand finds my jaw. His palm is rough, warm, grounding-but the look in his eyes? That's a wildfire. Just heat and hunger and something darker. "I..." The word is a whisper, barely there, shaky and useless. I can't finish it. His nose brushes mine in the softest graze, but there's nothing innocent about the way he's looking at me. Like he's seconds away from tearing me apart. Like he's been starving for this. "Say something" he murmurs, voice thick, his eyes flicking to my mouth. My lips part, not to speak, but because I need to breathe, to taste the tension curling like smoke around us. His thumb drags across my lower lip, slow and deliberate. My knees damn near buckle. I grab the front of his shirt, clutching it in both fists like he's the only thing tethering me to the ground. He leans in closer. And then his lips brush mine. Barely. A whisper of a kiss, soft enough to make me shiver. Then he kisses me again.
