The first time Katniss Everdeen punches Johanna Mason, it's not about Johanna.
Not really.
It's about the nightmares. The ones that curl like poison ivy around her lungs. The ones that show her Prim's body over and over, until she's breathless and clawing at the sheets in District 13's medical wing.
But Johanna just smirks, blood at the corner of her lip. "Guess I deserved that."
"You always deserve it," Katniss snaps, hand still shaking from the impact.
Johanna leans in, voice low and dark. "You punch like someone who wants to be kissed."
Katniss doesn't answer. She doesn't flinch. She just stares, jaw clenched-and the truth is, she doesn't know what she wants.
But she hates how warm her face feels after.
