Wrath of Poseidon

This is a short story I wrote as a character-writing exercise for my adaptation of Greek mythology. I was dissatisfied with how similar the wrath of various gods seemed to each other when I wrote them. So stories like this are a way to test how I can characterize and differentiate them after re-reading myths of their wrath to try and pick out features that set them apart. FOr example, to differentiate Zeus and Poseidon's divine wrath I wanted to focus on the intimacy of their punishments.

The current plan after this exercise is that Zeus delegates punishments to his pet monsters (like caucasian eagle) or other subordinates to punish people for as long as possible (based on his torturing of people like Prometheus). Meanwhile Poseidon will personally exact his revenge killing many and only leaving survivors to live as warnings to others not to oppose him. This split means there won't be as much of Zeus zapping people as people might like so it might not be the final characterizations I go with. How do you feel about this portrayal of Poseidon?

It's not perfect and probably needs tons of editing, but I still kinda liked how this practise story for Poseidon turned out and so figured I could share it. PS. Yes the mermaid plot is because it is mermay and a lot of cool artwork I saw on instagram inspired me. Also, how did you find the length of the short story? Should it be longer or shorter?
