When Steve Forgeborne was eight, his village was destroyed in a brutal raid, leaving him the only survivor. Ten years later, he's an outcast, seen as nothing more than the town fool. But beneath that facade lies a young man trained in secret, his heart set on one thing... Revenge. When he meets Alex Redspire, an 18 year-old girl also trained in secret, everything changes. Despite their differences, they share a common hatred for the raiders who tore his life apart. But when they uncover whispers of a far greater threat, one that could plunge the entire Overworld into chaos, they realize they'll have to trust each other if they hope to survive. As danger rises and their bond grows, Steve and Alex must face not only the enemies around them but the fears within. And when the fate of their world hangs in the balance, they'll learn that some battles can't be won with a sword alone...

An origin story built on an assortment of monsters, transformations, nuanced antagonists, interdimensional hijinks, cloning, and a little time travel. For the sake of protecting a village from the undead, Steve embarks on a sci-fantasy adventure that varies between lightheartedly absurd and downright grim. In one day, Steve will not only be introduced to the Overworld, but he, Alex, and others will be forever changed. Just enough creative license was taken to enrich the lore, and there are 300 references to "Minecraft" and its community. This novel was years in the making, and it serves as a tribute to the game that impacted so many people. Thank Nick Dankstein for illustrating the cover art. The commission was finished on November 18th in honor of the 14th anniversary of Minecraft's formal release date.
