Vance Hopper never expected to spend the whole school year in Hawkins, Indiana. Summer's here were fine: bike rides with Mike, Will, Dustin, and Lucas, sleepovers filled with Dungeons & Dragons, and long days that ended at the quarry. But now his mom thinks he isn't adjusting well to life with her new baby, so she's sending him to live with his dad, Chief Jim Hopper.
It's awkward enough trying to figure out what it means to live with a father who barely knows how to talk to him. It's harder when Vance can't stop thinking about Sara, his late twin sister, and how different everything might've been if she'd survived.
But Hawkins isn't the kind of place where you just deal with family drama and middle school. Something is beneath. Something that feels like it's been waiting.
When Will Byers disappears, Vance and his friends are pulled into a mystery bigger and darker than they ever imagined. And for Vance, facing the shadows of Hawkins might mean facing the ones inside himself.
