But light is more fearsome than darkness because light meant exposure-being seen, and answers-meant the risk of wanting more. And wanting more was dangerous. What if the light came and she did not know how to reach for it?

So she lingered at the edge of night, half-hoping someone would find her there. Half-afraid that if they did, she would not know how to step out of her own dark pit.
