"It's overwhelming..." Iris whispered, her voice nearly swallowed by the sound of crashing waves. She stood at the edge of the shore, arms wrapped around herself, eyes fixed on the rock that once meant everything. His rock. The place where he used to wait for her-tail shimmering under the fading sun, droplets of seawater rolling down his skin like pearls, voice like honey as he greeted her. Now, it sat cold. Empty. Silent. Just like the sea that had taken him.

Two months. Sixty-four endless days since he disappeared into the depths, vanishing without a trace beneath the waves. She came back here every evening, hoping against hope that he would return. That she would hear his song carried by the wind. That his eyes-those soft, sea-glass eyes-would find hers again. But all she was left with was silence.

She swallowed the lump in her throat, the ache in her chest tightening. Would he ever come back?
