The queen of Verdaria scans her surroundings, her eyes trained on every slight movement. Loud footsteps approach, accompanied by the clinking of metal armor. The royal woman seeks solace amongst the shadows of a dim alley, pulling the arm of her young son as they dash to safety. Sweat drips from her brow, in but a moment, they could be taken, snatched from freedom, and taken to the very man who wed her, the mad king, Rillard. However, the grace of God smiled upon her, the armed soldiers passing by without the faintest clue. Only a few more steps, and they would escape the city. The queen looked down at the young prince, only a mere four years of age. Perhaps one day they could return, one day he would rise after the deserved death of the ruthless king. On that day, the noblewoman dreamt, Verdaria would rejoice and praise the name of their new king, shouting, "Long live King Godwig!"
From the Historical Fantasy series, Lords of War, Godwig takes a look at the life of a humble yet fearful childhood, to the thrilling intensity of a regal king at war for his kingdom's survival. This book asks the question: Can one humble prince save the soul of a kingdom born from cruelty?
