Azara is the royal healer's apprentice and she's very content keeping her head down - hiding her shaky breath and the shadows that dance at her fingers. Prince Nikolaos doesn't believe in keeping his head down. He's being trained to step into the coveted position as Wrythia's Army Commander and he ensures that everyone knows it. So when Wrythia's most-loved prince shows up to the infirmary with a mysterious burn, Azara is forced to heal him for fourteen days. It's hate at first sight. But Wrythia has bigger problems than scorched skin. Someone is using forbidden blood magic to twist minds and unravel loyalties from within. Nik is determined to stop them. He just needs the help of the one girl who would rather hex him than hold his hand. As suspicion brews and old magic stirs, the reluctant allies must uncover the traitor before the kingdom burns with them in it.

Her mother taught her to be perfect. The perfect maid, the perfect kitchen aid, the perfect little mouse no one would look twice towards. Her father needed her to be perfect. The perfect shadow, the perfect spy, the quiet extension to his daughter. Her sister wanted her gone. But when one perfect little creation gets pushed around just a little too much, it bursts. It goes up in flames. It eats anything in its wake. When Azara sparks to life, she is anything but perfect. And one mistake is all it takes for everything in her life to be taken away from her. The life that she knew, the people she grew up with, the places she know like the back of her hand. Gone. Her mistake pushes her father to take drastic measures. His plans can not be distroyed, so he remakes them. But Azara doesn't get to know them. She's sent away, on the other side of the continent, with no plan whatsoever. Right into the hands of a broody king. One that is rumored to have killed his other two Queens.
