What They Couldn't See

Amara Helena spent her whole life walking on eggshells.

Her parents are strict, not the kind who guide, but the kind who control. Every choice, every move, every word must meet their expectations. And no matter how hard she tries, it's never enough. Straight As SPM means nothing. Every little mistake turns into a lecture. Every effort is dismissed with a comparison to someone "better." In their eyes, she's always a failure.

At home, she feels small, unwanted, and invisible. But school, school is different. School, and later college, are the only places where she can breathe. Surrounded by her friends, Shara, Yasmeen, and Suraya who make her laugh and teachers who see her effort, she finally feels like she belongs somewhere. For a few hours a day, she gets to forget the weight she carries at home and just be herself even if only a little.

But as the pressure builds and the silence at home grows heavier, Amara begins to realize that escape isn't the same as healing. Deep down, she wants more than just temporary comfort, she wants to be seen, heard, and loved for who she really is.
