Raye grew up in Southeast D.C. with her older brother, True, after their mom passed away when Raye was about 9. True stepped up as her protector and provider, doing whatever it took-even if that meant getting tangled with a gang. He was her rock, her big brother and parent all in one. True was deep in the streets by the time Raye was 15, but he kept her out of that life at all costs. "You gotta get out the country," he'd tell her, "these streets don't care about us." When True got shot and killed-likely because of gang beef-he made sure to warn Raye to leave D.C. before the danger found her. With her heart heavy and alone, Raye called her Aunt Kei in Chicago and made the move to start fresh. Chicago's cold streets were a different kind of warzone, but Raye was determined to survive and make a life away from her brother's shadow. Raye's learning to trust again, especially when she meets Tae-a boy with his own complicated past, who might be her chance at something real. But danger follows close, with Mario lurking in the background, threatening to drag her back into the life she swore she'd escape.

Two years after witnessing her parents' deaths, Deshia quietly returns to her hometown of Arlington, Texas. With the cartel still tracking her whereabouts, she finds herself in the heat of an ongoing war between chaos and justice. Struggling with the burden of trust, she grapples with assimilating into a life that is no longer her own. As she starts her senior year mid-semester, she crosses paths with Sean-the charismatic leader of a respected crew-who's intrigued by her defensive demeanor. Very quickly the mystery to her secret life begins unraveling. As Deshia tries to entertain the crew's childish ways and stick to the plan of clearing her family's name, she is torn between the protection of her heart and the fight for her survival. . . Sneak Peek "Yo curiosity goin fool around and get you in trouble." I warned. "And so are your lies." She countered. "You're one to talk." I spat back. "Hey, I lie because I have to, not because I want to." I rolled my eyes in disbelief. Such a cop-out statement. "So what's the difference?" I countered. "Apparently nothing in your book." She shrugged grabbing her water bottle. As my brows went up, my mind trailed back to when we first met. She was a firecracker that stood solid on her own. And in those early moments, I had convinced myself she was the type to never give in so easily. Now, I was reconsidering if I'd given her too much credibility. "And you think that's healthy?" I pressed. "When you're protecting the ones you love." She said mockingly and I simply replied with a smile. . . First book to "DONT LEAVE ME" series. Thanks for reading!!
