While returning to the Ruined Kingdom to collect more Power Moons, Mario and Cappy come across the Ruined Dragon in human form. After a brief conversation, the dragon decides to travel the world with them possibly to broaden her horizons and find something more.

In the sequel, Pauline and Daisy join Mario and Luigi to face Bowser Jr who is planning on rescuing his father. Meanwhile, far off in the galaxy, Princess Rosalina is there to help.
