A terrorist attack rocks the homeworld of Pyre, and Kyle and his bodyguard/sister Jessica are pulled away from their home in the stars to Earth, the planet of their ancestors. Here, they explore the worlds of the strange and sometimes terrifying secret societies cloaked in legend and folklore.
Jessica has power beyond her own understanding, most of it lost to her in a battle to protect her master, Kyle, when a serious injury took away her memories.
Kyle is the son of the military leader of all Pyre, but he has little power of his own, fearing what may happen to those he loves if he can't protect them.
Jessica feels drawn to action when she overhears the tragedy of a young boy missing from his home.
Under the guidance of their tutor, Praxis, the pair forms the Chasers' detective agency and sets out on their first mission to track down a missing child. Along the way, they must battle tricksters, legions of imps, vampires, and arrogant elves, all while allying with werewolves, spirits of vengeance, and the forces of the law. They battle to save young Thomas from the sinister Alfhiem organization and its underhanded leader, Tyrin.
