During the waning years of Spanish colonial rule in the Philippines, the story follows Josefina Amancio, a spirited and intelligent young woman from a humble provincial town. Raised in a family of principled ilustrados who quietly resist colonial oppression, Josefina lives a life of quiet defiance and hidden dreams. But everything changes when she meets Señor Álvaro de Herrera, a reserved yet idealistic Spanish officer newly stationed in the region. What begins as mutual curiosity deepens into a dangerous, passionate affair, one that threatens not only their reputations but also Josefina's loyalty to her people, and Álvaro's standing in the colonial order. As whispers of revolution grow louder and lines between loyalty and betrayal blur, Josefina must decide: is love a betrayal of her country, or could it be her own form of rebellion?

Love was never meant to threaten the crown. But when hearts defy kingdoms, duty becomes the heaviest burden of all. From the author of Kissing Snow and Keeping Bloom comes a story of forbidden love, loyalty, and the cost of destiny. He's a prince. I'm nobody. The one thing we can't have? Each other. Prince Alfred of Verdalia was born with everything-wealth, power, a kingdom waiting for his crown. But he wants the one thing he was never allowed to touch: me. Maria Daniella Rodriguez. Spanish-Filipino. Stubborn. Reckless. Ordinary. The girl he kissed once in Madrid. The girl he found again when the world told him to forget. The girl he's willing to burn a kingdom for. Every kiss is treason. Every touch is a scandal. Every stolen night is another step toward losing everything. Because in a world where crowns are heavier than hearts... we're forced to choose: the love that could destroy us, or the throne that was never ours to begin with.
