Humans had soulmates. Once they turned 15, their first tattoo would show up on their body, showing something of importance to their partner. The closer the tattoo was to the heart, the more valuable it was to the soulmate. Through these tattoos, people were given clues to who their partner was so they could find each other.
James was excited for his 15th birthday, thinking that he knew exactly who his soulmate was.
Severus was dreading his 15th birthday, thinking that no one would want to be stuck with him.
But as the two explored, they learned more. And in time, they found themselves understanding better what type of person their soulmate was.
