In this pursuit of answers, Origin combines the introspective, deeply character-driven qualities of literary fiction, with the equally extravagant and intricate world-building and high stakes of epic fantasy, thrusting you into the lives of thirteen-year-old twins Jacob and Ave Mercury as they're indoctrinated into a world where blurring the lines between right and wrong is demanded, one way or another.

Born to Simon Mercury-a high school English teacher, previously non-practicing wizard, and estranged heir of an ancient coven on the brink of extinction-and Angela Mercury-the sage, down-to-earth bookstore owner, community leader, and all-around enigmatic socialite-they should be no strangers to both mundane and magical. But when their extended family comes knocking, intent on being produced with an heir; Jacob's control, and his trust in his family, start waning; and several interested parties converge on them all at the same time; they find themselves in a battle to prove that their lives are their own-deciding in the end whether or not inevitability is truly worth fighting against.

I could smell something but couldn't tell what the vapors released from the vents were burning my nostrils. I could hear foot steps drawing to my cell. The lights flicked on and I squinted to see a tall and broad figuring standing at my cell door, unlocking it, and walking in. The aura this man was giving out was making it hard not to tremble. I quickly stood up and bowed. "What is your name" he bellowed kinda muffled. I panicked and quickly remembered that the guards had not checked me before putting me in here. I pulled out my speech device and began typing...I looked up for a split second just to see a fist plummeting towards me and everything became fuzzy. I could hear screams but could not make out what was being said.
