For Brinley Grey, romance was not part of the plan. All she cared for was one thing and one thing only, getting through high school and being accepted into Berkeley. She was sweet, innocent, and simple. Elliot Saunders on the other hand, was hard core bad boy. Flirtatious, rebellious, dangerous- you name it. He could care less about school, instead he spent most of his time flirting and hooking up with as many girls as he could get- which appeared to be a lot. His charms worked for everyone- everyone except Brinley.

They had been best friends for their whole life, since their family had been family friends and although being polar opposites, they get along quite well. However, Elliot had left for four years, leaving the two angry and confused, but when the unlikely pair attend a party in celebration of the end of senior year, can change all feelings. Drugs, alcohol, the normal senior party. That was before an unlikely kiss between the two opposites changed their relationship forever.

Her parents did everything they could to keep her out of trouble making her join many extra curricular activities such as learning violin, volunteering at the local animal shelter, tutoring elementary school kids. Emma never really experienced normal teenage activities drinking, smoking, partying or just hang out with friends she never really did any of those things she was just too busy. When the captain of the football team invites her to a school dance it was unexpected but she begged her parents to let her go for once, they actually let her go little did she know that one night would change everything. **** Blake Black was the high school loner he pretty much kept to himself. All the girls had a crush on him because he was mysterious and never talked to anyone. Most of time he would take care of his hyper little brother Alex because both of his parents were doctors his mom was a brain surgeon and his dad was a heart doctor. They were both always busy not having much time for they're growing boys. His parents basically forced him to go to the high school dance they wanted him to just act like a normal highschooler for a few hours but his plan was just the wait out the time at the dance till he was able to leave and at least be able to tell his parents he went. A lot of different girls came up to him wanting to dance but he turned his back on all of them he wasn't the dancing type. When he saw what happened to Emma he couldn't just sit back and watch like everyone else.

"Listen, I've got a proposition for you," Azure's firm voice flew across the soft wind of the graveyard, "something mutually beneficial." Elliot stepped back slightly, "I doubt that." Azure stepped closer and the street light flickered; he then whispered, it was soft, like the fall of dead leaves, "I can help you keep your scholarship. Don't you want to keep your dream a reality?" Elliot narrowed his eyes, "Did you do a background check on me?" "That doesn't answer my question." "And that didn't answer mine." (Abridged) -/- Life had never been fair to Elliot. After barely managing to scrape by, he somehow made it to his junior year at Central Haven, one of the most prestigious preparatory high schools in the country. He was prepared for another two tiresome years of high school, but the future has other plans for him. The start of the school year brings with it the infamous Central Haven merit project. Unfortunately, it's done in pairs this year. Even worse, he's stuck with Azure, notorious for his flippant demeanor. His living situation gets worse and his scholarship is at risk. Azure notices Elliot's struggles and the two make a deal. Surely Azure's up to something, but what? Regardless, Elliot isn't in a position to refuse. ...Maybe they'll find and lose Liberation. -/- If you're unsure about this reading this story, I hope you'll at least stick around to chapter 7 when the story begins ramping up. This story is a slow burn, enemies to friends to lovers. Please do not take this story at surface value as there is a lot of subtext. Be aware: the story can be extremely subtle. The story delves into various topics with social commentary so if you want a nuanced modern romance story, I highly suggest you give this story a try. Elliot is a strong protagonist, just less traditional. Updates will come on Fridays at 4 p.m. (PST) with most months having at least one update. The ending is planned so the story won't be incomplete.

You can do this Ace. I know you can," I murmured, staring at him sadly. *** Meet Victoria Grey Leigh. She's a good girl-- a girl who always tries her best in school.
