The Book of the Secrets of Enoch is an ancient apocalyptic text attributed to Enoch, the seventh of Adam, the great grandfather of Noah. It chronicles Enoch's celestial journey through the Ten parts of Shamayim, guided by the Malakhim beings, and his encounters with  Elyon Aravat (the Most High) on the mountaintop of the Shamayim's realms. There, Enoch receives secret revelations about the structure of creation, the order of the malakhim hosts, the judgment of the wicked, and the destiny of the righteous.

The book emphasizes themes of justice, the origin of evil, the fate of souls after death, and the importance of purity, righteousness, and repentance. Enoch is transformed from mortal to immortal being; given a new name Merton  endowed and entrusted with  wisdom, knowledge, and understanding making him a key intermediary between Shamayim and Adamah, before the great Deluge. 

A unique feature of 2 Enoch is its elaborate biblical cosmology, including vivid descriptions of Sheol, paradise and darkness, and its focus on priestly purity possibly reflecting influence from the First Temple.
