Even though there was a twist in the Hunger Games (the first quarter quell), Terrence Everdeen volunteered. He wanted to get away from his family who, as he thought, despised him. At the game's he meets a girl from another district and they immediately become friends. She not only shows him how to survive, but also the importance of family.
