🎧 Title: Mute

Genres: Teen Fiction · Mental Health · Friendship · Coming-of-Age

Content Warnings: Selective Mutism, Mental Illness, Bullying, Emotional Abuse, Physical Abuse, etc

💬 Synopsis:

Thirteen-year-old May Crudence hasn't spoken to anyone but her older brother in years. She's selectively mute, an emotional empath, and tired of being seen as fragile. School is survivable-until Camila and her crew decide it's time to break her silence.

Zee talks enough for both of them. Fast-talking, jittery, and always smiling, Zee is May's closest friend... but she's also battling early-onset schizophrenia and hiding a lot behind that grin.

And then there's Isaac Panell. Kind, observant, curious Isaac-who may or may not be May's friend. Because sometimes he's laughing with Camila. Sometimes he's apologizing with his eyes. And sometimes, he's just... gone. He's the gay wild card.

Three teens. Three truths. One school where silence is dangerous, and secrets are louder than words.

Shall we do an experiment? Hear me out: an enemies-to-lovers where love is complicated but never toxic. Where the female lead knows what she wants and takes it. Where the male lead doesn't growl, rage or slam her into walls. A journey with all the angst, secrets, spice and heartbreak of dark romance without the abuse. Are you ready? ******************************************** It's 1984, Queen on the radio and rage in the streets. Moira Bourne, stretched thin between her nanny job, family drama and university classes, fights for the recognition she deserves. Evander Ward, fresh from a gap year in Europe and eager to prove himself, is ready for redemption. Two people whose paths were never meant to cross. When they do, the collision blows their life to smithereens. ******************************************** "Pass the tea, will you?". It came over me - it being it all, the shame, the anger, the sense of injustice and the nine hours I hadn't slept the night before. Those, maybe, more than anything else, because I reached for said tea and, possessed by that mighty cocktail of resentment, spat in it. I did so making sure he could see it, he could hear it. Then I passed it over to him and waited. His smile, at this point, had turned overjoyed, putting the previous ones to shame, revealing their graft. He had received the answer he was hoping for. He took the cup and chugged it down. Looked me straight in the eye and drunk it all. ******************************************** Fair warning: mentions of racism, ED, assault, sexism, and classism ahead. You know where your limits lie. _________________ Out of nowhere, Mom came around the corner pointing a gun at us. Ginny pointed the one that we found back at her. It was a shocking moment. "What the hell, Virginia and Oakley? What are you guys doing home? I could've killed you guys" Mom says squatting down to our level and grabbing the gun that Ginny had. " I've never held a gun before" Ginny panicked. " what are you guys doing in here? Why are you pawing through my closet?" Mom says. "We want answers!" I say getting up and so did Ginny. " Answers to what?" Mom says trying to put everything back in the box. " Are you kidding? To all of it! Your past everything. We're sick of all the lies" I say. " I don't care what you're sick of. You guys have no right to go through my stuff" Mom says putting the box back under the floorboards. " Don't talk to us about what is right. What is all this? Why are there guns in the house?" Ginny barked. " why do you have to send Maddie away?" I add. " That's between me and Maddie" Mom says. "She's our aunt! Why couldn't we know that? They're are family" I plead for answers. " They're not your guises family. I am your guys family!" Mom snapt. " I just want you to be honest with us" Ginny says. "I have been" Mom says. "Bullshit, Mary!" Ginny snaps. Mom then did the unexpected and slapped Ginny. "Oh my gosh" I say looking between mom and Ginny. ________________________ Oakley and Ginny Miller. Always moving schools every single month basically.
