In the hush beneath the roots, the first clan was born. These are the stories passed from whisker to whisker of the very first clan of rats. The digger who shaped the den, the sliprat who marked the trails, the thorn who protected his people, the rootwhisper who healed the sick, the leader who brought out the best in his friends... Follow the rat clan Rootbound as they find their way in the world, surviving dangers and making bonds that go deeper than the roots of the tallest trees.
This is still very much a work in progress and will have changes posted occasionally. I tend to have bursts of energy when it comes to writing, getting into a hyper-fixated state for a couple weeks then fizzling out and stepping away for a while. Tales of Rootbound is a mythic fantasy rooted in nature, kinship, and survival. If you enjoyed Watership Down or The Secret of NIMH, you'll feel right at home. These stories are full of wonder and warmth, but also danger, death, and the weight of survival. While not excessively graphic, the themes may be intense for younger readers-including mentions of death, clan customs, and mature (but naturalistic) family structures.

Children dart through blooming gardens, their laughter ringing louder than bells, while elders sit beneath arching roots, telling stories of brighter days. Here, joy is stitched into life itself.
