19 parts Ongoing MatureThe air was thick with smoke and gunpowder, screams tearing through the warehouse like ghosts in agony. Azrael's heart pounded with every shot, blood smeared across his black shirt. He moved like a phantom, both hands gripping pistols, but he was losing. For the first time, the King of the Underground felt despair.
Until he saw her.
Min-jii.
She stood at the far end of the warehouse, gun raised at him, her eyes void of warmth. Everything froze.
"Darling...?" he called, breathless. "What are you doing here?"
"Something I should've done long ago."
"You thought I wouldn't see that look? We were lovers. What happened to us?"
Her lips curled in a sad smile. "You thought I loved you?"
He froze.
"Raise your gun," she ordered. "Don't be a coward."
"Min-jii..."
"RAISE IT!"
His hand lifted slowly. Gun to gun. Heart to heart.
"Shoot me," she whispered, "or I'll kill you."
He couldn't move. His face went blank. He'd rather die than harm her.
They pulled the trigger.
His bullet missed. on purpose he couldn't kill her ever.
Hers never aimed at him.
Azrael's heart dropped as he saw her turn the gun to her own chest.
*BANG!*
"MIN-JII!"
He caught her before she hit the ground, blood soaking them both.
"What did you do?!" he choked. "Why?!"
She reached up, fingers brushing his cheek. "Appa wanted me to kill you... I couldn't. I'm sorry."
"No. No. Don't leave. Please. I'll fix everything, just stay."
She wiped a tear from his face.
"Please... don't love me..."
Her eyes dimmed.
And she was gone.
The battle stopped.
Azrael held her close, surrounded by silence.
The girl he couldn't keep. The only one he ever loved.
And the man who'd never be the same again.
