My Knife, Ta Revanche (Notre Love)

"Congratulations," Hayate says abruptly, and Yumi startles halfway through cleaning the chalkboard. She looks behind her, slightly alarmed, to see him blinking innocently at her. "On getting first," he clarifies, smiling as though he doesn't care either way.

Yumi nods, grinning in response as well, a good bit more cheekily than Hayate is. "Thanks," she chirps, but her eyes narrow slightly. She's sensing he isn't finished speaking just yet.

"Won't happen again," Hayate continues in the same cheery tone of voice. She's been proven right, but at the same time... what?

Yumi takes a moment to process this, and then-

Oh. 𝘖𝘩.

(Or: Yumi's used to keeping grounded and staying focused, but her new school has other plans. Hayate, the top student with a reputation for being unapproachable, doesn't make things any easier, and of course, the universe always has another trick up its sleeve)
