Pete "Maverick" Mitchell has lost a lot over the years: his best friend, his wife, and the sudden risk of losing his career. After over thirty years of service as a top naval aviator, Maverick has found himself face-to-face with ghosts as he returns to TOPGUN to help train a new and upcoming group of graduates. Amongst rivalries and competition, Maverick must call in reinforcements, Maverick's daughter, Maddlyn Mitchell, with a dark past of her own.
Their biggest trial was not the awkwardness between Maverick and Lieutenant Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw, or trying to get the new trainees to behave like a team. It actually came from the tension caused by Lieutenant Jake "Hangman" Seresin.
Lieutenant Jake "Hangman" Seresin has a reputation for being unstoppable. He's always been the top pilot, so when this new trainer dismissed him, he had to prove her wrong. That is, until he makes a mistake that would change his life and Maddlyn's life forever. It soon became clear that the very mistake Maddlyn warned him he'd make came a lot sooner than he was prepared for. And she would have to pay the consequences for it.
