I don't know where I come from. Not really.

They say my mum died when I was one. That she was caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, but I know that's not true. Voldemort killed her. And as far as I knew, my father was killed that same night.

But Uncle Amos won't talk to me about it. It's like there's this wall around the truth, and I'm always two steps too young to break through it.

Leon's the only thing that's ever felt certain. We've grown up side by side-me and him, like gravity. He makes the world feel a little less sharp. A little less like I'm walking through it alone. Sometimes I think he sees the cracks in me before I do. Sometimes I wonder what we really are to each other.

Now I'm thirteen. I just found out my father isn't dead.

He's alive. In Azkaban. Branded a traitor. A killer. And suddenly the world doesn't feel as solid as it used to. Because I don't know who I am anymore. And I don't know who to trust.

But something inside me keeps whispering: start digging.

And once you start... you can't stop.
