Cadence has always been different. Her golden skin would be enough to mark her as different, but there was more to it than that. She was Clairvoyant, and the future sometimes revealed itself to her. It was much more of a curse than a blessing, especially since her father was trying to marry her off and all of the misdeeds of her potential husbands show themselves to her, making it impossible for her to choose a husband. Her father has set a deadline on her choice, however, and she must make a decision no matter how repulsed she is by her options.
Elian is a Shifter, one of the most reviled beings in the world. His kind cannot mingle with humans, or they will be killed on sight. Despite this, he loves his family. His six older brothers treat him with rough love, and his parents love all of their children equally. Their lives as Shifters are hard, everything they own either stolen or handed down generation after generation until it falls apart and is no longer useful. But when his father is killed on a raid for supplies, all of the brothers begin battling for the inheritance of all their father had owned, and Elian knows that it is a fight he cannot win. To avoid the struggle and chance of death, he must leave his home forever. He travels for weeks before coming to a little town with a castle tower and beautiful young woman with skin like gold.
Despite all the reasons why they shouldn't, the pair falls in love. When Cadence's father tries to force her to choose a husband from the young noblemen that have been presented to her, she chooses to elope with Elian instead. Together, in love, they travel far away from her father's wrath, but they cannot escape him. No matter how far they go, his fury is right behind them. They want nothing more than to live peacefully together, but how can they when their choices could result in their deaths?
