16 year old Magnus Chase has recently obtained a sudden fortune from his father, Frey Summer. He wasn't entirely sure what to make of him or his riches, but took the gift instantly to help his mother. She had been the one to insist on Valhalla Boarding School for Boys. She thought it would be good for him, but Magnus wasn't so sure. 

16 year old Alex Fierro had made a deal with her father. In exchange for her not running away (which would ruin his reputation), she would go to boarding school. In reality, she didn't care about boarding school, she just wanted to get away from him. But of course, for one final act of revenge (for what, Alex didn't know), he enrolled her in a boy's school. Honestly, Alex should have expected it.
