In Dove Creek, Alabama, girls disappear like prayers left unanswered. Caroline Ruth is the preacher's daughter, pure, obedient, and drowning beneath the weight of it. She's been taught to fear desire, to keep her skirt hem low and her mouth shut. But when a new boy arrives in town-and her best friend starts looking at her like she holds secrets-Caroline begins to question everything she's been told about God, love, and what it means to be saved. There's blood beneath the altar, and Caroline's starting to feel the heat of hell even with her hands folded in prayer. A Southern Gothic story about girlhood, repression, forbidden love, and the slow, holy burn of rebellion. Not every girl gets a way out. But Caroline is willing to burn for hers.

TW: **!!suicidal ideations!!** + gore + non-denominational religious connotations that lean toward Catholic/Christian All Frank really wants it to be six feet below ground, peacefully decaying into the soil, instead of whatever investigative work she's doing with her unlisenced detective acquaintence Caroline. The sixteen-year-old insists there's some supernatural cult activity going on in their little town of Wroughtwood, and Frank is in no position to deny her; not when they both have strange powers, and not when Frank is unwilling to do any research for herself due to sheer disinterest. However, when Frank discovers that these strange powers may render her immortal, she has no choice but to go on a quest through the dreary and unwelcoming town of Wroughtwood to discover how to kill herself and the alleged cult members. Although the journey remains within the two square miles of Wroughtwood, Frank and Caroline's investigation reveals cannibals, prophecies, a slew of terribly flawed and scorned townsfolk, and, of course, the apocalypse. Hopefully Frank will get her happy ending, whatever it ends up being.
