Universes were fragile things; too much pressure and it all comes collapsing in on itself. 

When a jealous and bitter God tries to forcefully alter a universe that was not just hers in name and get it to bend to her whims, stretching it into a multiverse, it became to crumble without its foundation, and the God needed some assistance to hide what she had done.

By getting the multiverse to do a full reset. Which did, in the end, allow the God to seize control as she wished.

Of course, things have a funny way of coming back no matter how much one tries to keep them buried.

The Pale King would give him back ALL of his children and then he would help him against the Infection caused by the Moth godness. So he is very confused (and a bit mad) when months later he can feel six more children enter to Hallownest without an explication.
