This #Mafin fan fiction was written in June (originally pusblished on AO3), about two weeks after Marta and Fina broke up in the tv series Sueños de libertad (Dreams of Liberty, Spain TV). Both are suffering from a broken heart. When the head of the family, Damien de la Reina, decides to send his daughter into exile under the pretext of wanting to save his daughter's marriage, Marta is forced to flee. But is she really able to step out the golden cage of her life? And can she convince Fina to give up her sick father and her friends to follow Marta?

Working as a research assistant during her first year of microbiology was definitely not part of Serafina's plans, much less under someone so insufferable and brutally uninterested in who's assisting her. What started as a great opportunity quickly turns into a minefield of awkward silences, sharp sarcasm, and a tension that isn't always academic. Between Petri dishes, badly brewed coffee, and experiments that never made it into any paper, Serafina and Marta will find out that even in the most controlled environments, some variables can't be predicted. Like falling for the last person you'd expect.
