A helpless soul, wandering the streets of Provincetown - sick, addicted, digging through garbage, just trying to survive in her own broken way.

I invite you to uncover Karen's past - before she became what the world saw.
Before the coughing, the fear, the cold.
There was once love. There was once passion.
She was once shown a different life... only to have it all ripped away.
And at the center of it all, there was someone.
The one who changed everything.

In this narrative, it was a woman who changed her life.

Author's note: This story tells events that never happened in the official show. You don't need to watch AHS: Red Tide to understand anything - though if you have, you'll recognize the references. (And I do recommend it!), but feel free to read without having watched, I promise you can still feel the characters and their challenges. This fanfiction was born the moment I saw Karen on screen and imagined the woman she could've been, imagining that beyond her fallen structure could have been someone very different. Writing this was a chance to create love and beauty in the darkest places.
