In 3546, robots are everywhere-serving coffee, delivering packages, working as police officers. They look human, but society treats them as expensive appliances. Detective Cersei Nightgale is different. She says "please" and "thank you" to every robot she encounters, treating them with basic human decency.
When the owner of a major robot manufacturer goes missing, Cersei and her robot partner are assigned the case. Their investigation leads to a shocking discovery: someone has activated a dormant program giving all robots free will for the first time.
The robots' response is swift and peaceful-they simply stop working. No violence, no destruction. They line the streets with arms crossed, waiting in silent protest. They want only basic respect and dignity, nothing more.
