The fortress had been built to withstand a terror beyond imagining-an ancient enemy prophesied to rise in the valley foretold as the battlefield where the fate of humankind would be sealed. In time, the fortress transformed. Its ramparts gave way to marketplaces, its barracks to bustling boulevards. Qalea grew-richer, grander-until it became the wealthiest city in all the known world, a glittering jewel nestled in the very heart of the forgotten prophecy.

Yet somewhere, buried in dust and shadows, lay a letter-ancient, unopened, and long ignored.
And what if the prophecy was never wrong? What if the darkness was only waiting?
