After managing to survive a killing game masterminded by the Ultimate Despair herself, Haruna Yoshida struggles to cope with its aftermath, as one of its survivors. Lost memories of two years, survivor's guilt, the witnessing of losing people she held dear to her heart, PTSD, and the ongoing Tragedy are haunting the 19 year old girl.
Yet fate decides to play another game on her, wanting her to participate in another killing game, along with 15 other participants, including her older brother, Ichiro Yoshida, his boyfriend Megumi Hirai, his best friend Asahi Kagami, and her childhood best friend, Nagisa Amagi, hosted by the monochromatic bear, known as Monokuma. The call of Despair strikes again, with Haruna serving as the protagonist, creating bonds with people she didn't know and reinforcing her liens with people close to her, as the dilemma of 'murder or no murder' returns, the participants vanishing one by one as the game goes on.
Inside Haruna's head, another dilemma is born as time passes: Surrender to despair as she witnesses several deaths all over again, or hold onto hope and survive?
