It's been 60 years. Kai is dead, there is no hope of getting Elena Gilbert back since Bonnie Bennett died and she was turned into a vampire about 55 years ago but Elena Gilbert was still asleep as if she was Snow White. But 
    Kai Parker, was a bit clever. He did the spell so it wouldn't wake Elena up if Bonnie turned. But, he put a fixed date where Bonnie would die of old age because he knew no one would kill Bonnie.
