Right Where You Left Me | Reiner Braun
28 parts Ongoing "We should have left it at that but we didn't. That was our gravest mistake, wasn't it? We crossed the line we ourselves drew."
It wasn't in the cards for either of them. Not for him, who was a sworn soldier with a definite number of years to live, and most certainly not for her, who swore she would not invest in things that she knew would not last in the long run. But to find both love and friendship in one person seemed like something that happens so rarely, all chances must be taken for it not to be missed.
When the giants fight, it's the small ones that suffer. When duty calls, it's the homes that are deserted. Always, somebody leaves first. And always, both people aren't sure who it was between them. Some kinds of sparks burn so incandescently, that the same fire that once warmed their home becomes the one that burned it down.
What happens when one of them returns? Would they find ashes, or would they find the hearth still burning there, just as it was when they left?
