After the First Spinjitzu Master created Ninjago he had two sons both of whom favored one side of the balance more than the other, the oldest son went on to have two sons of his own before he fell into darkness this is their story.

Destiny Begins
Long before time had a name, Ninjago was created by the First Spinjtizu Master by using the Five Golden Weapons of Spinjtizu; weapons so powerful, no one could handle all of their power at once. When he passed away, his two sons swore to protect them, but the oldest, Lord Garmadon, was consumed by darkness and wanted to possess them all. A battle between brothers broke out, and Lord Garmadon was defeated and banished to the Underworld by his brother, Wu.
